Can't correct an email address for a user.

A user contacted me and said she's not receiving emails.I checked her info and found that her email address was incorrect. When I tried to correct the email address, I got this error:

Please correct the following:
Sorry, this new name (Karen Smith) matches another user who shares the same email address. Users who share email addresses must have distinct names (a different first, middle, and/or last name).

I've exported all members to a CSV file and searched for the correct email address, but cannot find it. Can you help me fcoprrect this issue? Thanks in advance,
Tony.

  • Update: When I make a small change to the users name (added a middle initial), the error message changes:

    Please correct the following:
Username (for signing in): Username 'xxxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com' is unavailable.

Note: I x'ed out their email address in this thread, but the system is showing the correct one (that does not appear to be attached to any other member.

  • Hi Tony,

Making the small change that you did (adding the middle initial) is enough to make the distinction between two users with the same email address.  However, the system also requires usernames to be unique and I'm guessing when you updated this user's primary email address, you also changed her username to the email address, which matches the username of the "other" user with that email address?  If so, then for your person, you could just change her username to something else, like the xxxxx portion of her email address and leave off the @gmail.com.

Let me know if this works or feel free to contact me at support@groupvine.com so I can take a look at your user.

    Best,
    Robin
