Parents want to get texts on cell phones

A lot of our parents prefer getting texts on their cell phones, rather than emails...how can we accommodate them?

  • Hi Sandy,

Thanks for the feedback. I am changing your question into an idea to be considered for a future release. It would be a large undertaking.

    Regards,

  • Texts can be sent via email if one knows the carrier. So that part is straight forward and wouldn't have to be on GroupVine to do. Schools / Groups could do it themselves here: https://www.carrierlookup.com

What GroupVine would need to do is add some capability so that when sending an email there would be:

    - a field for some intro text and then a link to view it in a browser would be automatically added
    - a flag for each email/profile to indicate if GroupVine should send the text version or the full version

Our school really needs this feature.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Does Groupvine have a way of integrating SMS messaging with group emails?.

We are a school and many parents don't read email at all or if they do, it is later when they are at home. Many have requested text messages in addition to or in place of email. We will always use email due to the limited info that can be sent by text or SMS but it would be nice to have the option for short, quick messages. Is there a way to add phone/text info to our email lists?

    Hi Everyone,

Members can now be set up to receive text notifications for all emails or just ones the sender has tagged as "Urgent".  (Text messaging fees may apply based on each individual's mobile phone plan).

Members still receive emails in their inbox and this gives them the option to be notified when one has arrived, which could be important especially if it's urgent and needs their attention.

Members would need to provide the following information:
    1. Mobile phone number, including area code
    2. Mobile phone carrier - AT&T, Alltel, Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular, Cricket, Metro PCS, Republic Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile, Ting, US Cellular, Verizon, or Virgin Mobile
    3. Option for receiving text notifications - No text notifications (default), receive a text notification for all emails, receive a text notification only for emails the sender has tagged as "Urgent"
If you're interested in text notifications, please contact us at support@groupvine.com and we can help you set this up for your community!

    Best,
    Robin
