Strange symbols in text of email

When some of our members send an email via a GroupVine address, strange symbols appear for the recipient. This has been happening for the past several weeks. Here is and example: ï¿1⁄2
During a meeting yesterday, Steph and I revisited the possibility ofï¿1⁄2adding delivery date to tblDELIVERY_MUM and had some concerns about storing the date in multiple tables and linkage toï¿1⁄2tblPREG and tblPREG_OUT without the inclusion of a reliable pregnancy sequence value.ï¿1⁄2 Therefore, we would like to propose another solution and let us know what you think.ï¿1⁄2ï¿1⁄2We would like to keep PREG_SEQ only inï¿1⁄2tblPREG as an optional variable and add a pregnancy identifierï¿1⁄2field (PREG_ID) toï¿1⁄2ï¿1⁄2tblPREG, tblPREG_OUT, tblDELIVERY_MUM, and tblDELIVERY_CHILD.ï¿1⁄2 PREG_IDï¿1⁄2could be anythingï¿1⁄2as long as it is unique (would probably recommend a number).ï¿1⁄2 In combination with MOTHER_ID, PREG_IDï¿1⁄2would link all of the pregnancy and delivery tables.ï¿1⁄2 Would this work in your region?
ï¿1⁄2
Weï¿1⁄2will also likely add a variable for "mother enrolled Y/N" to the tblDELIVERY_CHILD table and areï¿1⁄2in the process of writing instructions forï¿1⁄2populating theseï¿1⁄2and other tables in the situation where only the mother is enrolled in the cohort, only the child is enrolled, andï¿1⁄2ï¿1⁄2where both are enrolled.ï¿1⁄2 More to come on this.
ï¿1⁄2
Others, please feel free to comment as well.

Thanks,
Bev

  • Hi Aimee,

Thank you for contacting us with this issue.  We're aware of the problem you describe and our engineers are working on a solution.  We are also very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused your recipients.

This started happening recently because of an upgrade to our mail system to address scalability and pave the way for some future improvements.  However,  a couple weeks after the upgrade we discovered this problem with odd characters sometimes appearing in emails that were sent by programs that may use one of the less common character encoding methods.

Although our engineers are now working on a solution, we don't expect it to be ready for probably another week or so.  We will certainly keep you posted.   In the meantime, if certain senders would like help in ensuring their emails are sent using common ("utf-8") character encoding, which doesn't experience the problem, please feel free to have them contact us at support@groupvine.com.

Again, our apologies and we appreciate your patience.

    Best,
    Robin

  • Hi Aimee,

Good news!  Our engineers were able to implement a solution for the odd characters showing up in emails, so recipients should now see cleaned emails, but please contact us if you still see any issues.

Again, thank you for contacting us and we're very sorry for the inconvenience to your membership.

    Best,
    Robin
